OOP4FUN Final Conference was organised as the pilot intensive course on object-oriented programming. It took place in Dresden from July 1st to 5th, 2024. Targeting secondary school teachers, this learning, teaching, and training activity was based on the educational materials developed as part of the project’s results (PR1-PR4).
Participants included university professors and doctoral students who authored new curricula and educational materials for object-oriented programming (outcomes of PR3 and PR4), as well as secondary school teachers—the primary target group of the project. Both university and secondary school teachers from the project’s partner organizations attended in person.
The learning, teaching and training activity aimed to:
- Evaluate the feasibility of the new methodology for teaching object-oriented programming.
- Assess the usability of new educational materials, such as examples and worksheets.
- Gather feedback on the e-learning portal and its content.
The event program covered:
- Fundamental programming concepts
- Principles of object-oriented programming
- Creation of engaging student projects using Greenfoot—games designed to explain basic algorithmic problems
- Languages and IDEs for object-oriented programming
- Utilization of textbooks and workbooks developed as project outcomes
- Use of worksheets and other e-learning content
The event provided participants, particularly secondary school teachers, with a valuable cross-border experience. It facilitated networking and the creation of new formal and informal relationships among participants and institutions.
